Basis

Terms of Service

Effective August 9, 2026 · Private beta

1. The service

Basis is a personal portfolio tool: it records investment theses, watches market data, generates trade recommendations, and, when you explicitly enable it, routes orders to brokerage accounts that you connect. Access is limited to invited, allowlisted accounts during the private beta.

2. Not investment advice

Basis is software, not an investment adviser, broker-dealer, or fiduciary. Nothing the service displays, generates, or executes is a recommendation to buy or sell any security. Recommendations are produced mechanically from rules and data you configure. All investment decisions, including any trade the software places on your instruction or under your automation settings, are yours alone. Markets involve risk, including total loss.

3. Brokerage execution

Orders execute through third-party brokerages you connect (currently Alpaca). Those relationships are governed by your agreements with those brokers. Basis transmits instructions on your behalf and records the results; it does not custody assets or funds. Guardrails such as paper mode, notional caps, and daily limits are best-effort software controls, not guarantees.

4. Market data

Quotes and historical series come from third-party sources and may be delayed, incomplete, or wrong. Do not rely on them as the sole basis for any decision.

5. Your account

Sign-in is via Google. You are responsible for the security of your Google account and any broker credentials or tokens you store in the service. Access may be revoked at any time during the beta.

6. Availability and warranty

The service is provided as-is, without warranty of any kind, express or implied. It may be unavailable, change, or shut down at any time without notice. Watchers and automations may miss events, fire late, or fail.

7. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Basis and its operator are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages, or for any trading losses, arising from use of the service. Total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for the service, which during the private beta is zero.

8. Changes

These terms may be updated as the product evolves. Continued use after an update is acceptance of the revised terms.
